I can’t clearly see the purpose of “Open to Work” tag in LinkedIn. I have not heard anyone securing a job with this tag in place. It is merely an idea which forces job applicants to act and come back to LinkedIn again to see if anyone has seen the tag, it’s a full proof strategy to drive traffic, meaning influence the person back to the site again and again, unconsciously. I got my new job opportunity via LinkedIn and when I observed closely, it is the profile that attracts, not the “open to work” tag. When you don’t reveal your intentions, you have an upper hand in discussion and negotiations.
If you tag “open to work” there is negative impact to your profile. By adding this tag, you are totally undervaluing yourself. A company/recruiter can clearly see what it reveals about you with this tag in place.
“Open to work” what it reveals about you!
- You come across as a desperate individual
- Tag portrays that you are not happy with your current job, no company will hire someone who is unhappy with the existing circumstances.
- Companies want applicant who are doing good, learning from the current job and who can contribute further value if they hire them.
- Unconsciously you have made up your mind that you are an unhappy person in the current circumstances.
- You will be last option for the recruiters to contact you with this tag in place.
- Your chance to negotiate the level, salary totally diminishes.
- You lose the current opportunity you may have in the existing organization.
- Your current manager will treat you as secondary option for any task or assignment
- With this tag in place, you can never grow in the current organization.
- Mentally you will be burdened, thinking you are not getting calls or opportunities.
