What is habit, it is repetitive action each day, repetitive thought each day consciously and unconsciously. We call it discipline when it’s a positive good habit. Hope this is clear.
How are habits formed, the only relation to habit is pleasure and pain. If there is pleasure in performing an act or thinking about something, you preserve it and you want to continue the experience, the same pleasure further the next day. By not doing or following that habit, there is pain of not experiencing the pleasure that you have experienced in the past. So, pleasure and pain dictate the entire action and thought process of a human being. We want pleasure; hence we repeat the act again every day to avoid the pain of not getting, experiencing it.

I am talking about a real fact here about me, and how I was able to end a bad habit which was rooted in me for more than 20 years, repeating it every day to sense the pleasure and avoid pain. Habits can be any repetitive action or thought, we are talking about bad habits here which everyone wants to put an end to. The habit could be gossiping, thinking bad, sex, drinking, smoking, laziness, not loving, hating, envious about others and so on…there could many more. Now, how to end a habit is the question we are asking.
With repetitive action and thought each day, a habit which was a small plant in the beginning becomes a huge oak tree that we will not even dare to uproot. One feels it’s totally impossible to uproot the habit which has become this huge tree. You can uproot a small plant; however, years go by converting that small plant into a huge tree and we live with it, thinking it is impossible to uproot.
Habit has direct relation to Pleasure and Pain; this is the past experience and knowledge one has accumulated over the years. We want to experience the same pleasure from the past or there will be pain, so we continue doing what we are doing without any action that will cause disruption and pain.
Now, if you stop thinking about the past, that is, imagine you have only 1 day to live on this earth, there is no past and no future, you are going to die tomorrow, what will you do? will you waste time on yourself for the pleasure? Or, will you do everything possible to make others happy, love your wife, love you children, do some act that will help at least 1 person on this earth, clean the house, make it a living place, put everything in order because there is no tomorrow.
I did the same, every day I started thinking that I have only 1 day to live and in that case what will I do? This made me think deeply and I started acting as there is no past and future. This worked for me and I earnestly pray it will work for you to live a better life.
